Being almost unbearably hot in summer, the visitor may be more comfortable visiting during the winter months. During October the city hosts an annual triathlon.

For a magical experience, visit the Kgalagadi Transfrontial Park – a truly unspoilt eco-system. A leisurely drive to the Orange River Wine Cellars Co-operative for wine tasting is a must. The Cotton Grinery at SA Dried Fruit Co-op is where tons of raisins and sultanas are packed daily. Augrabies Falls National Park and Spitskop Nature Reserve are perfect places for picnicking, hiking and enjoying the spectacular scenery. The Kalahari Museum features the famous donkey statue. It recognises the contribution this animal made in the development of the region during the 19th Century. For the adventure junkies there is a microlight school where you can learn this exciting and exhilarating sport.
