Popular areas to stay in Umhlanga
Umhlanga is roughly 30 minutes drive north of Durban. It is a very popular tourist destination, especially for beach and sun-seekers. The most popular area is Umhlanga Rocks, which is has many luxury hotels and apartments right on the beach, and magnificent views of the famous landmark lighthouse. It has a warm sub-tropical climate, with winter averaging around 17C – not too bad at all.
Things to do in Umhlanga
Of course most people will go to Umhlanga to spend time on the beach and around the sea. Activities include: surfing, deep-sea fishing, whale watching and dolphin viewing, scuba diving, and kite boarding. There is also a Nature Reserve, Casino and a large shopping centre called Gateway.
