History & general info about Bedfordview
Bedfordview started out as a farm belonging to the South African government. Elands Vontyn (as it was then known) later became Elandsfontein and was granted to the Van der Linden family in 1867. The family subdivided the land among themselves and tried to mine it for gold. When these efforts proved futile, the land was made available for agriculture. Today Bedfordview has a thriving business community. With it’s close proximity to both the airport and the Johannesburg CBD, a number of manufacturing, retail and construction companies have chosen to set up their head offices here. A number of schools have been established, and the suburb boasts an excellent road network. Guest accommodation and restaurants have also become a major priority and the area has established itself as an up-market place to live, visit and eat.
