How to get to Alberton

Getting to Alberton from OR Tambo International Airport is relatively easy. When leaving the airport, take the Johannesburg (R24) highway. This highway will direct you to the N3 South to Durban. Once on the N3, you continue following the N3 Durban signs until reaching the Elands interchange. Here you need to take the Vereeniging (R59) lane and follow the R59 to the Michelle Ave off ramp. History & general info about Alberton

Alberton has its roots in 11 hectares of farmland that a 13-year-old Johannes Petrus Meyer purchased from his stepfather. He built a mansion and started a general dealer’s store in 1890. When he died, his brother Johan Georg Meyer took over the farm. After the war, a General Alberts chose to buy part of the land from Meyer in the hope of splitting it up and selling it off – he decided to name this land Alberton. By 1918, the town had families living in it and the first town hall and factory were built. The first company to establish itself in Alberton was CJ Fuchs (Pty) Ltd – a company that is still trading in the city today.
