Popular areas to stay in the Karoo

The Karoo has plenty of towns, with the main ones being: Colesberg, De Aar, Griquatown, Hanover, Orania, Richmond, and Three Sisters. Most of these towns will be short stop-overs for people who have chosen to drive from johannesburg to cape town (or vice versa). The area is known for its unique flat-top koppies.

Things to do in the Karoo

Although most people just drive through the area, there are a few places and things to do that are definitely worth a stop-over. Vanderkloof Dam is very popular as a tourist destination for boating and general water enthusiasts. You should also visit Gariep Nature Dam reserve, and the Akkerdam Nature Reserve.
