Things to do in Herolds Bay
A protected sandy bay surrounded by rugged sea cliffs , Herolds bay is an ideal place to play or relax in nature. With a golden beach fringing the warm Indian Ocean, two tidal pools and a favorable climate it is an great place to while away time in the sun. For the more energetic, there are surfing waves, coastal walking trails and near-buy golf courses. The bay is an ideal place to spot whales and dolphins, early mornings being the best time to spot the schools of dolphins surfing the curlers. The land in this part of the country is green all year round and the coastal fynbos is home to a variety of birdlife. Fisherman know this coastline as a good place to catch supper or a at least return with a few stories for the campfire! Shopping and cinemas are available in a short drive away in George and the rest of the attractions of the Garden route are not far away.
How to get to Herolds Bay
Herolds bay is conveniently situated just 5 minutes drive for George Airport. Just turn right onto the R404, travel under the N2 and 8km will bring you into town. The town is 20 km from central George and a scenic 440 km drive from Cape Town, it is well signposted a short distance off the N2 on the R404 on the Cape Town side of George. Taxis and hire cars are available at the George airport and most accommodation will also arrange a transfer for you.
History & general info about Herolds Bay
The town is named after Rev. Tobais Herold, the first minister of the dutch reform church in George. The area is renowned for its healthy Mediterranean Maritime climate with warm summers and cool winters. Rainfall occurs in moderate amounts in both summer and winter.
