Coffee Bay is often referred to as ‘one of the most beautiful and undiscovered places in South Africa’. It has managed to remain relatively unknown and undeveloped though, and so is still quite a small village. It consists of a few huts and simple homes, a trading and general store and a hotel. Local rumour has it that in the 19th century a ship ran ashore and spilled its contents of coffee beans on the beach, giving the area its name. The Coffee Shack (as you can guess from the name) is more of a backpackers hangout. It is situated right on the beach and helps arrange many outings to the area. The Ocean View Hotel is more sophisticated 3 Star hotel. Apart from their luxurious accommodation they will also arrange activities if you so choose.
