Italy Info

Italy is a magnificent country, and is really diverse. The country as a whole is famous for its cuisine, even though each region has a completely different take on food. For example, in the North is is customary to use a spoon to twirl the spagetti on to eat, while in the South this is seen as uncivilised. One of the common themes though is on using fresh ingredients to create light meals that should be enjoyed socially.
The more well known cities in Italy are Rome, Venice, Florence, Milan, and Naples. Rome is of course the capital of Italy.

Italy Highlights

Being so diverse, Italy really is a country that demands to be seen over a lenghy trip. We would recommend you start in Rome and spend a few days there. The collisium is a must see, as is the Roman Forum - see where Julius Ceasar was killed. Don't forget that the Vatican City (the smallest country in the world) is also found in Rome and well worth a visit. Just cover your shoulders and knees and you should get in without any hassles.
Next I would move onto Sorrento - which is where the famous Lemoncello comes from . Lemocello is a lemon liquor that is often drank as an aperitiff. From here, you can also catch a cruise to the famous and very exclusive (read expensive) island of Capri.
One place you simply have to go is Venice. It is literally like a dream and the place seems right out of a poets eyes.

Airports in Italy

Italy has a number of international airports, some larger than others. The main ones are situated around city and city centres and include: Rome Fiumicino (FCO), Milan Malpensa (MXP), Venice Marco Polo (VCE), Rome Ciampino (CIA), and of course airports in Pisa, Parma, Bari and Catania.
