Bangkok
is a frenetic combination of
buildings, people and movement. For some, the constant buzzing and lack
of personal space is too much and the city seems too overpowering. For
others, the constant activity and sheer dynamism of the city is just
irresistible. Bangkok is a heavy combination of traditional eastern
culture and modern western culture. The streets are intermingled with
ancient buildings, traditional temples and gardens, and modern hotels
and offices. The roads and rivers are a constant hive of activity from
cars, river taxis and small boats., but the occasional glimpse of
fully-robed monks reminds you that traditional Thai culture is not too
far away. Being a tropical country, Thailand is hot throughout the
year. However, high levels of humidity and occasional flooding often
accompany the rainy season.
Places
to Visitin Bangkok
Bangkok’s
Royal Grand Palace is truly
a magnificent site to behold. There are many palaces housed within its
walls, each highly decorated and exquisite to look at. The holiest of
all Thai temples, Wat Phra Kaeo, can be found here. This is where the
Emerald Buddha rests and visitors will only be granted access into the
temple if they adhere to a strict dress code. Vimanmek Palace is
another wonderful pace to visit. This palace is the world’s
largest building made entirely of golden teak. There are 31 exhibition
rooms and, although visitors are not free to wander through the palace,
guided tours take place every 30 minutes. There is also a strict dress
code. The oldest and largest temple in Bangkok is Wat Pho. Here, people
can view an enormous gold-plated Reclining Buddha, and also learn about
herbal medicines and traditional massage. Again, a strict dress code is
applicable. If a historical outing is what you’re looking
for, a
visit to the National Museum should be considered. Here you will find a
huge collection of artifacts dating all the way back to the Neolithic
period.
