Dar es Salaam is the largest city in
Tanzania. Although 80% of the population live in rural areas, Dar es
Salaam is the economic powerhouse and is the business center of the
country. Population growth is intense with the city being one of
the fastest growing in Africa, and indeed the world. Dar es Salaam is
also very popular with expatriates. At the moment the population is
just shy of 3 million people. Recently the city has also become a bit
of a tourist attraction, with Tanzania pushing for those "tourist
dollars". Most people used to use the city merely as a stop-over on
their way to Zanzibar or Pemba.

The airport in Dar es Salaam is called the Julius Nyerere International
Airport. Roughly 3000 people use the airport per day, which has lead to
the airport being expanded from time to time to accommodate them.

The only airline that flies directly to Dar es Salaam from South Africa
(OR Tambo) is SAA (South
African airways flights). You can however also fly there indirectly
via Kenya with Kenya
