South African Airways Weighs Passengers
This is'nt as ominous as it sounds. SA Airways is conducting a survey so that they can calculate the average passenger weight on its flights. Such surveys are common practice and airlines do them every few years. Captain Jonny Woods, head of flight operations, said "The information is then used, with the average weights of cargo, fuel and checked-in baggage, to calculate the correct and safe take-off and landing weight of an aircraft". SA Airways are only weighing at OR Tambo Airport and are looking to weigh 4000 passengers and 300 crew. The weighing is completely voluntary and no personal details are required. If you are one of the passengers taking part, let us know how it went. All of this is to increase and improve the safety, especially in light of the recent SA Airlink fiasco. |
