Virgin Atlantic
Virgin Atlantic is the
airline launched by Sir Richard Branson and is still majority owned by
the Virgin Group (the other major shre holder is Singapore Airlines). Starting
off with just 1 flight being offered, Virgin Atlantic now offers
flights around the world and is a major world player.
When they first launched there was much animosity from BA, who at that
stage had enjoyed an almost monopolistic position in the UK owing to
the beneficial treatment it recieved from the airports due to
government regulation. However once this regulation was removed, Virgin
Atlantic (www.virgin-atlantic.com) was able to compete on a fair
playing ground and started to win over customers. In this last year
they carried almost 6 million passengers.
