There are many airlines operating in South Africa and this includes homegrown airlines as well as foreign airlines. The local ones are of course SAA and the low cost airlines like Kulula, 1Time and Mango. Another local airline that has been doing well lately is SAA Express.
Apart from these many international airlines fly to and provide international flights from South Africa. All of the airlines use Jet Engine technology and most have very new fleets. Airline travel has been proven again and again to be oe of the safest means of travel. However each airline does have its own safety record that should be avaliable to the general public.

Airlines have also recently started working together to better manage prices and passenger flexibility. One of the largest of these 'groups' is the Star Alliance. Alliance member airlines pass passengers onto eachother if they do not fly certain routes and enable improved flexibility in destinations for passengers.
